Do the people search and contact his son (and his daughter, if she kept her own name) and make sure they've protected his assets.

If his assets are protected, realize he's probably having the time of his life and the cult isn't able to do any financial damage to him should he choose to leave when the world doesn't end.

Just be aware that cults don't often let people walk away from assets. The cult takes them. There can be a good lawsuit in that, but the family needs to know what's happening to their dad.
