Should tax filers be drug-tested to get the child tax credit?

All over the internet, it's fashionable to demand that "welfare" recipients pass a drug test to get benefits.

If there should be drug tests for food stamps, shouldn't there also be drug tests to claim the $1000-per-child tax credit? I don't see the difference -- both are payments from public funds to people who meet certain criteria.

(I wish I didn't have to say it, but this is a tongue-in-cheek question.)

4. I think there should be a drug test

before you are even allowed to sign up to run for any office plus a monthly drug test. I am so tired of playing nice because the other side never plays nice.

coming from the very people who are screaming about spending to much money! Those tests aren't cheap. Who the hell do they think is going to pay for them?

We print the Sandpoint, Idaho, newspaper, and it's about as far to the right as you can get. A few days ago, they published a study, which was done by a RW think tank, that proved drug testing every welfare recipient in Idaho and kicking off welfare anyone who tests hot (we won't discuss the fact that a lot of OTC pain relievers will throw a false positive for THC, and a lot of poor people live on Advil because it's cheaper to take Advil to get rid of pain than to go to the doctor and get whatever's ailing you fixed) would cost more for the testing than anything you might save by terminating the hot testees' welfare benefits.

They also pay for the Medicare. It is insurance, and those who take part are called beneficiaries, not recipients. Because they pay premiums. Co-pays. Deductibles. And so on.
