Judge jails drug user to save her

A federal judge last week put a young Niagara Falls woman in jail, hoping to save her life.

U. S. Magistrate Judge H. Kenneth Schroeder Jr. revoked the bail release of Ashley Fose, who is one of the defendants in the case of a Niagara Falls doctor accused of illegally distributing powerful narcotic painkillers.

Fose had been free on bail since her arrest Jan. 27, when U. S. Drug Enforcement Administration agents accused her of obtaining narcotics with a forged prescription stolen from the office of Dr. Pravin Mehta.

Schroeder said he put Fose — the mother of two young children— in jail because he believes that if she is put back on the street, she would resume taking narcotic painkillers that could harm or kill her.
