| I am absolutely DISGUSTED with news coverage of the Wisconsin situation |
|
Everyday I come on DU and read little bits and bites from the sit-in and whenever I have google news searched them to get th efull story I come up with nothing. The Milwaukee Sentinel journal is often the first on the search results. So, that means that local news is being read more than national. Why? Cause the national stations seem to barely be touching it.
The latest was this phonecall to Walker. This is caught red-handed stuff here. I'm not usually a fan of gotcha journalism, but this really is telling and I don't even see reference to it on CNN. Instead the lead story is about this sexist/christian wrestler. Seriously, what the fuck?
The next round of demonstrations should be CNN and other networks. There needs to be a physical presence demanding they conduct their craft properly.

They are talk shows who specialize in discussing news items...
If they reported this call prior to 4:00 PM, then it would be news reporting, so to speak...

That way, people like myself who often make the point that corporate media is a powerful and focused propaganda tool, we won't sound so out there.
What you are seeing is that is simply becoming more obvious and, by comparison, the disconnects with honest facts stand out more. Corporate America, (and its multinational actuality) is like its own country. It is a wealthy country with way too much power, resources and soldiers. That country is now in the process of taking over the one we thought we were in.
The current Republican blitzkrieg might make more sense in that context.
Keep an eye peeled on that pesky corporate machine! We are occupied.

If it were a regular day, i could see that. But when such major things are happening in the USA it shouldn't be so much more at the forefront. And it's funny, cause usually the US media will cover ANYTHING before another country.

we saw in the 80's and 90's where they'd take over a company and extract the wealth then fire the workers, dismantle the factory and sell it to India or China...reorganization...we're in the middle of a hostile takeover.

Other than a couple of media persons on MSNBC, M$M personalities are all anti-union, anti-populism, racists and bigots. In other words, they are Kochheads who stand with Walker.

Keep an eye peeled: How often do you see it mentioned that the public employee unions have already given in on pay, insurance and pension benefits? Walker has gotten most of cake, and he wants the crumbs, the platter and all the ice cream, too.
Lose this one, and the middle class is cooked for at least a generation.

|
Perhaps you have yet to see the chart that shows who exactly it is that own the major media outlets in this country. Even our beloved MSNBC is owned by a fucking defense contractor that makes refrigerators and MRI machines. And nuclear triggers.
I think you need to take a step back and re-evaluate just exactly which media you choose to read or watch. Here's a clue.
If it's on TV, it's right wing. Even if it's Rachel or Big Ed. They may not be right wing, but they are brought to you by the right wing media. Crumbs, I think it's called. Oh yeah, they make money. That supports those nuclear trigger manufacturing plants in China or where-ever.
Now Keith? Well, we will hope he slips in under the velvet rope and makes some noise. Some big time noise.

nine pages of hits with most of the links about the current activities, and the funny fone call is right there on the homepage.
At the NY Times, I put Wisconsin protests" in the search box and got 10,000 hits.
Truth is, I'm not sure just how much there is to say about what's going on there-- how many times do you really want the phone call repeated?

| 24. This is why I don't google current events,,, |
|
there are too many places that keep the Googlebots out for one reason or another. Even with places like NPR, what I want may be on "Here and Now" and not show up on a search.
It still ain't all that easy, but it beats the old ways.
(And, I suppose you've noticed that when googling some interesting news event, you might get a hundred hits, but they all reference one "Story Zero" where it all started.)

| 18. It's Nile TV West, minus the flagrant dictatorship |
|
People need to forget about the tactic of demonstrating for the media. It works here about as well as it once did in Egypt. There may have been something to the tactic half a century ago with the Vietnam War, but it is worthless today.
Today we need to demonstrate to gum up the works of the corporate rulers, possibly for an extended period of time, not to make a statement for a few hours. And we need to be our own media, because Nile TV will never tell the truth.
(We can of course meaningfully demonstrate at the media with intent to gum up corporate propaganda. But the day one demonstrates to get the message out in the media is over.)
I think the best follow through is to fight against the brutal cuts to the poor, myself (after all the hardest hit is likely to be the working poor, not that freezing grandma and slashing medical coverage for the disabled to the point of near uselessness isn't also on the table). That, and double down on efforts to unionize more workers. While they disgust me, I'd only bother with Nile TV West if Nile TV starts to make itself a nuisance. They've earned it, but there are more urgent targets.

Until then it's just another peaceful protest. How cute.

If you want media coverage, you throw, burn and break some shit. If you want to be ignored by all but one station, have a peaceful rally. Hold up some signs and sing songs.

Start with Faux Noise HQ.
Actually, Faux Noise HQ ought to be the focus of WEEKS of daily demonstrations. Make it a Wisconsin type of event EVERY FUCKING DAY. In all revolutions, you go for the enemy's media outlets.

|
get home from work in the evening I watch Rachel Maddow on the internet.
Also, the past couple of days Diane Rehm, who has a show on NPR which comes on at 11am Mountain Time, I think it's live at that time, has been covering the Wisconsin story. All too often I've thought she's something of an apologist for the right, but on this story she's been hitting hard about the untruths that are being said about unions, teachers, and so on.

...early this morning (6am pacific!) the Koch-whore fake gov. scott walker just had his costume ripped off his pathetic body. This creep deserves everything that's coming to him; including an early recall vote...in fact, i'm predicting the earliest exit of a newly-elected governor in the history of the country! The ppl of Wisconsin deserve for teabagging MF to be thrown in the garbage bin because he is trash. Republicans who are union members (& who voted for this assclown back in Nov) I hope you are just as appalled as the dems are!
