OMG! Scott Brown really is turning into a Democrat !!!

Today the Senate voted on the confirmation of William Joseph Martinez, of Colorado, to be U.S. District Judge for the district of Colorado.
Martinez was Confirmed: 58-37

ALL republican senators voted 'no' except for Scott Brown who voted 'yes' with the Democrats !!!

I'm lovin' it :)

But still, Scott Brown has really been voting with the democrats a lot lately :)
And we didn't need his vote to get to 51 for the confirmation, so it's pretty neat that he voted with us when his vote really didn't matter to get it done.

it seems like the pattern is that we can usually count on Collins, Snowe, Voinovich, and Scott Brown.

Romney enraged citizen's of Massachusetts, democrats and republicans, by trashing the state as he was setting up to run for President. Voters have not forgotten that. Romney was not factor at all in the recent race for governor, or in the House races.

The one republican that can have a chance against Brown in a primary is Charles Baker, the recently defeated gubernatorial candidate. It teabaggers try to primary Brown, independents will likely vote heavily in the republican primary to pull Brown through to the general. Indies make up nearly 40% of Massachusetts voters, republicans are at about 15%.

a lot of the repubs are in the western part of the state. We can beat them handily, but they get noisy at times, and want something they can't have. So we throw them a bone every now and then.

Regarding Romney, I lost all respect for a man who ties a dog to the roof of his car and forces it to go miles in that location.

And the only way he will do that is pull over democrats and independents. Brown's win in January was because his opponent was a horrible, poorly organized campaigner. Brown has to move to the middle and hope that democrats self destruct again and nominate a weak candidate again. I am a moderate, Brown's recent votes are encouraging. I will pay attention to his voting record up to the election in 2012. If Brown hews to the center and democrats nominate another Martha Coakley, I will be neutralized, I won't vote for Brown, but I would not vote against him either.

this is how the game is played in washington.
brown is a conservative in a liberal state, so he'll stick to the republican line when his vote matters.
but he knows he can't hold his seat if he always votes the republican line.
so he checks with the party whip to see if his vote matters or not.

the party whip lets him vote with the democrats when it doesn't matter.


that's the whip's job. you really think it's just to COUNT the votes?
no. it's also to know how many votes they can spare if they're on the winning side, or if none of the votes matter because they're on the losing side. if none of the votes matter, congresscritters are free to take a vote that will play well back home or with a preferred campaign contributor. if they can only spare a few votes, the whip doles out the "spare" votes to congresscritters who need it in exchange for a political chit or a commitment on a future vote.
