| suddenly worried and self conscious, is it okay to give your sisters jewelry for holidays? |
|
Edited on Tue Dec-21-10 08:01 PM by Mike 03
I wanted to give my sisters somethings special this year, so I gave them a piece of jewelry of equal value, nothing sexual, just classy, I am hoping. But my OCD is kicking in and worrying that maybe I should not have given them jewelry. I also gave my mother a piece of jewelry this year. I just wanted to do something special for them for a change. Now I am all worried I broke some unwritten rules or something.

I buy jewelry for my sister and mother a bunch for holidays and gifts. Nothing like diamonds or anything like that, just some nice necklaces and earrings etc. once a watch but that was for my sisters graduation.
I wouldn't worry about it, the fact you are doing something special is what will be picked up on, not gift taboos etc.
Don't worry.

Every time they wear your gift, they'll be thinking about how nice it was you gave it to them.
I think of the person who gave me the jewelry I wear every time I put it on.
Happy Holidays, and do not worry. They will love it!

| 8. Jewelry is a "memento" type of gift..special no matter who gives it |
|
just for different reasons.. It's perfectly fine for you to give them jewelry (if they like jewelry)..
I gave my best friend a nice gold bracelet once when she commented on mine & told me how she had never had a gold anything.. I have given a son a nice gold bracelet too..
If it's from a boyfriend/husband/girlfriend, it's "romantic"..but from others, it's just a nice gift & they'll think of you when they wear it:) :)

because it in itself has value, tends to hang around a family for awhile.
Perhaps you just gave them future heirlooms their children and grandchildren will enjoy in years to come! :)

| 12. I guess that I am a little confused........ |
|
...as to why the term 'sexual' even entered into this picture in the first place? (Skeptic that I am.)
Are you somehow equating the gift of jewelry with perhaps having a romantic undertone in this regard?
If this is the case, maybe you ARE over-thinking this one???
If perhaps you said that you were giving them like, a sexy nightgown of something like that - then, yeah - OK, the sexual overtone would probably apply in this case ~
Jewelry is nice for most. Personally, one of the best gifts I ever received was a poem.
A simple poem. Prose that spoke from the writer's heart to express how important and how loved I was sincerely.
...and you just can't purchase THAT from a store!!!!!
(Just my opinion!)

i would fall on my ass in astounded joy and surprise if a sibling of mine ever coughed up jewelry but soooo not gonna happen around here
what a wonderful gesture
as for your mom, of course, moms are deserving of the gems and jewels of their choice, we only wish we could afford bigger and better ones...but a gift of jewelry to mom is always right...in my fact my mom is getting jewelry featuring her favorite gem this year, i just hope it isn't too much since she already owns some pieces with the same gemstone in them...but there's nothing wrong w. an embarrassment of riches when it comes to picking out which of your favorite gems you will wear each morning, right?

to give. I've gotten jewelry from my father, mother, aunt, counsin, brother etc. I treasure all of it, it has sentimental value and everytime I wear any of it I think about the person who gave it to me.

love mandarin garnets, spessartite garnets, purple garnets and sapphires, although my least favorite color of sapphire is the blue.
Seriously, I think it's a wonderful gesture. Perhaps relax and put the OCD to bed.

Sorry you have OCD. I know what that is like. I'm from a family of people who worry, worry, worry, worry, worry -- endlessly. And I am no different.
I hope that some day you meet someone special who doesn't have to deal with OCD and is willing to listen to you worry. That helps more than anything.

jewelry, that'd be a-ok with me! (As long as it's not like a diamond ring or something traditionally romantic...a diamond solitaire necklace smacks of romance, so that wouldn't be appropriate, I think.) But a bracelet, a different kind of necklace (other than a romantic one), some earrings...anything like that is a very nice gift.
I wish you were my brother! (not really...my brother is the cat's meow!)

Many women like jewels.
Many women like their brothers.
Not all, but the averages are one your side.
Merry Christmas!
