Gaddafi now speaking: I congratulate the Libyan people on the "Declaration of Citizens Power" in 1977 when I gave up my powers to Libyans
3 hours ago

• Gaddafi now speaking: I congratulate the Libyan people on the "Declaration of Citizens Power" in 1977 when I gave up my powers to Libyans

• Gaddafi: Myself & my comrades gave up power, we freed Libya & put it in the hands of Libyans since 1977, this is not a family run country

• Gaddafi: I want to remind you of some parts of that historic declaration. Libya a Jamahirya (Masses) because the people rule the country

• Gaddafi: There is no King, or President or Leader in a Jamahiriya, only the people rule, no law is issued without their approval

• Gaddafi: The People's Committees rule here in Libya, the world does not understand that.

• Gaddafi: These days we hear my name a lot in the media. I started the 1969 revolution, gave the power to the people, then rested in my tent

• Gaddafi: I don't have any power. I freed the people then gave them the power. The Libyan people are free to rule themselves as they wish

• Gaddafi: Lawyers came to me on the 15th of Feb, told me we want to complain to you because you are our guide

• Gaddafi: "Mohammed "What was the name of that thing, huh?" It was called the Lawyers Union Committee, what does this have to do with that?"

• Gaddafi: They told me that Union only represents a minority of lawyers out of the 1,500, but they are free to form a Union.

• Gaddafi: They held my pictures and told me we would die for you. I don't have a position, I am not a president but they wanted me.

• Gaddafi: They told me the Imperialist media is focusing on me. They said Libya has no constitution, only Gaddafi, (people chant for him, yhey chant "God, Mumaar & Libya only")

• Gaddafi: This is the first time I hear such chants. Muammar has no power to resign from

• Gaddafi: I was surprised to see all the demonstrations in my favour all over the Jamahiriya

• Gaddafi: All these chants of the Libyan people were surprising, I don't watch TV, I don't watch Satellite TV that enrage people

• Gaddafi: They want me to resign from a position I don't have. They are challenging the accomplishments of the Libyan people

• Gaddafi: They didn't know the difference between Libya, Lebanon & Liberia, now all Libyans hold their heads up high

• Gaddafi: They want to insult the Libyan people, how can Gaddafi make Italy kneel & kiss the hands of the son of Omar Al Mukhtar!

• Gaddafi: How can Gaddafi make Italy pay for its colonialism of Libya! How can he give the oil to his people & free Africa!

• Gaddafi: Men, women, children all over Libya went out to demonstrate for me, the TV stations didn't cover them, we have it all on tape.

• Gaddafi: "Gaddafi made Italy condemn its past & pay us for their colonialism"

• Gaddafi: The outside world wants Gaddafi to resign, resign from what? I have no authority. They don't want the peace & love that we live in

• Gaddafi: Al Qaeda Sleeper Cells have entered Libya, some Libyans lived in Afghanistan & Iraq, they don't care about Libya

• Gaddafi: The US Intelligence knows them, they handed them to us, we released them & they apologised but now they are back, the traitors

• Gaddafi: You find them in Misurata, Benghazi in Zawiya, these sleeper cells, also in Bayda which was very secure, they defended themselves

• Gaddafi: These battalions train in Benghazi, like an army, in case the Libyan people are attacked, the sleeper cells attacked the battalion

• Gaddafi: Cross fire started when the sleeper cells attacked the battalion, 150 died, or 200, then they said thousands died.

• Gaddafi: The soldiers were killed inside their camp, I told them stop, don't attack them back. They took the weapons & took control of Bayda

• Gaddafi: They started a radio station & then took over the mosques, they wanted to kill the people, the people were scared, families fled

• Gaddafi: Women are hiding now, they are scared from these armed men. The same happened in Benghazi with Fadheel Bu Omar Battalion

• Gaddafi: Fadheel Bu Omar was a hero who fought the Italians, but he was backstabbed, like these traitors now

• Gaddafi: They then took over Benghazi radio station, then one man took over, he was from Guantanamo, & started executing people

• Gaddafi: He was be-heading them like Zarqawi, people were living in peace before, he forced the military to resign & the diplomats

• Gaddafi: Don't believe this news of the resignations abroad

• Gaddafi: They took over dangerous arms so the military started bombarding the weapons depots so the terrorists don't take them over

• Gaddafi: Then the world said "Look they are killing innocent unarmed civilians" these people who kill civilians!

• Gaddafi: We are sorry for all those who died from the police & the citizens. You know Al Qaeda don't do demonstrations.

• Gaddafi: have you ever heard of Al Qaeda starting demonstrations! These are lies, lies. There were no demonstrations anywhere in Libya

• Gaddafi: The people went out to demonstrate against those who were killing them. But the world got info from media that has no presence here

• Gaddafi: Libyans don't like foreign journalists. The news is always vague from Libya. If someone writes "1,000 were killed" they believe him

• Gaddafi: Everyday the armed people attack the people in Bayda & Benghazi, they free the prisoners & arm them, murderers, drug dealers!

• Gaddafi: In Libya there are no political prisoners, not one. Because politics belongs to the people, we want people to take authority

• Gaddafi: They took pictures with their mobile phones, they say things that are not true. We demand the UN to come & investigate

• Gaddafi: Those who were killed some were civilians, but also officers who were defending the weapons, they should ask why there were there?

• Gaddafi: Will America allow this? They killed those in Waco Texas & Russia bombed the parliament

• Gaddafi: Like in Gaza, the Israelis attack the Palestinians, NATO attacks the Afghans & Swat Valley, it's allowed if they carry weapons

• Gaddafi: Why are they not condemned. This is a plan for America to take Libyan oil or land, to colonise it

• Gaddafi: Of course not fighting back allowed them to take over the eastern cities, they said "Who ever goes out we will kill him"

• Al Jazeera showing images of Libyans holding their shoes up to Gaddafi

• Gaddafi: People came from all over Libya to see me, especially at this time, from Darnah before the terrorists took it over.

• Gaddafi: All the demonstrations in Libya were in support of my revolution. They want to take over Libyan oil, that is impossible!

• Gaddafi: We will fight for Libya from its north to its south, to the last drop

• Gaddafi: People are calling us, saying save us from these armed criminals. We have recordings of them, the world can hear them

• Gaddafi: Then they attack the foreigners here, they tell their embassies, so these countries withdraw their ambassadors

• Gaddafi: Saif Al Islam warned you of this, these criminals who scared the foreign oil workers because they are scared

• Gaddafi: If there were peaceful demonstrations why would they withdraw their ambassadors from Libya?

• Gaddafi: In Italy there were demonstrations in 30 cities demanding the leader to resign, no one withdrew their ambassadors

• Gaddafi: Why would they withdraw the oil workers if the demonstrations were peaceful?! This is proof that they weren't peaceful

• Gaddafi: Why would peaceful demonstrators attack oil workers? Libya will stay powerful.

• Gaddafi: We Libyans have to investigate the Bayda to Benghazi operation. To find out who was the culprit.

• Gaddafi: Who killed the citizens & also who killed the police? The police are also Libyans, they have families. We must find out.

• Gaddafi: They killed them like Zarqawi does. This has nothing to dow with Gaddafi, it concerns Libyans, not the outside world

• Gaddafi: We invite the world to investigate. The UN has nothing to do with internal conflicts only between countries.

• Gaddafi: How can the UN issue a resolution based on media reports? They are lies 100 %

• Gaddafi: The UN will regret this & apologise for resolution 1970, how can they get involved in internal issues?

• Al Jazeera discontinued the broadcast. Gaddafi is still going on though.

• Al Jazeera guest: Gaddafi is retarded even in his retarded-ness. He doesn't acknowledge what we all see on TV today.

• Back on Al Arabiya now. Gaddafi: I am ready to sit with any Emir (leader) from Al Qaeda & debate with him

• Now the signal is gone from the source on Al Arabiya. No more live Gaddafi speech for now.

• Gaddafi: If there anyone who hates Omar Al Mukhtar? Impossible. Or hates Gamal Abdul Nasser? Impossible.

• Gaddafi: Is there an Emirati who hates Sheikh Zayed? Impossible.#Libya

• Gaddafi: There is no more unemployment in #Libya after the Egyptians & Tunisians left

• Gaddafi: Italy didn't thank us for defending its embassy. We will bring Indian & Chinese firms to replace the Western companies in #Libya

• Gaddafi: Europe must understand that #Libya's stability is in her advantage

• Gaddafi: Thousands will die if Nato or the US intervenes in #Libya. Our wealth is being pillaged in the West.

• Gaddafi: The Arab world hates & envies us. Many friendly countries told us that they were shocked at what our UN ambassador said.#Libya

22. US Senate urges no-fly zone for Libya
As already mentioned:

WASHINGTON - The US Senate on Tuesday unanimously passed a resolution urging the world to consider imposing a no-fly zone over Libya and condemning Moamer Kadhafi's bloody crackdown on civilian foes of his regime.

Lawmakers approved the measure, which "applauds" demonstrators demanding democratic reforms and "strongly condemns" Kadhafi's response, without dissent amid growing frustration about deadly unrest in Libya.

13. AJE correspondent has 'near-miss' when Libya AF jet bombs outside Brega
A CNN news crew also reported that a bomb "narrowly missed" them.

From AJE Live Blog - Libya Mar 2:

4:14pm Al Jazeera's Tony Birtley was just on the phone with us - 10km away from the oil-rich town of Brega. As we spoke, he was watching a Libyan airforce jet bombing the area.

It’s now an air attack. We just watched an air force jet from the Libyan air force fly over Brega and drop at least one bomb - and huge plumes of smoke are now coming out over Brega. Another bombed near our position, where anti-Gaddafi forces have gathered.

All the fighters here are massing. We understand that something like 250-300 pro-Gaddafi fighters inside Brega and they are being surrounded.

Rescuers find seven emaciated prisoners 'buried alive in underground cell in Gaddafi's compound'
By DAILY MAIL REPORTER
Last updated at 8:41 AM on 1st March 2011

...

Rescuers claim they heard voices underground and dug through freshly laid concrete to find the men, some of whom were barely alive Sky News reported.

Tyrant: A burnt-out prison cell in Colonel Gaddafi's compound in Benghazi. Rescuers claim to have found seven emaciated prisoners buried alive in an underground cell

The men were believed to have been anti-Gaddafi protesters or soldiers who had rebelled against the Libyan dictator.
The compound, off limits during Colonel Gaddafi's 40 years in power, has revealed a labyrinth of bunkers, prisons and armouries.

Among the debris were boxes for anti-tank missiles and rocket-propelled grenades and the tunnels were so large armoured vehicles could have been driven through them.

Ransacked: People gesture at the camera as they walk through Gaddafi's destroyed house in Benghazi

Parts of the compound have now been destroyed by looters and rebels, but there are rumours it was connected to Gaddafi's mansion outside the town by tunnels.

Figure of fun: A boy sits on a chair in front of graffiti depicting Gaddafi being kicked out of Libya

United Nations: Act Now to end the killing in Libya

Target: Member nations of the United Nations
Sponsored by: UN - Act Now

Monstrous acts ending in the killing of the citizens of Libya are taking place in Libya.
As defined by the United Nations Resolution 260 (III) A of the United Nations General Assembly on 9 December 1948, genocide means any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, as such:
    (a) Killing members of the group;
    (b) Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group;
    (c) Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part;
...and others.
Also, the 1948 General Assembly adopted the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide recognizes that genocide, whether committed in time of peace or time of war, is a crime under international law, which the member of the United Nations undertake to prevent and to punish.

Now is the time for the United Nations to take action to end the killing taking place in Libya. This can be done by such actions as establishing a "no fly" zone to prevent the use of fighter jets against the citizens of Libya.

http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/un-actnow-libya/

Note: I post the tweets from youth organizers and journos regardless of personal conflicted feelings on this. Conflicted feelings because Libyans don't want boots on the ground but you can't have a no-fly zone without ground support.

Report: Saudi Facebook activist planning protest shot dead
Mar 2, 2011, 11:14 GMT

Riyadh/Cairo - Saudi activists alleged Wednesday that state security shot dead a leading online activist, who was calling for a 'Day of Rage' on March 11 in the oil-rich kingdom.

Faisal Ahmed Abdul-Ahadwas, 27, was believed to be one of the main administrators of a Facebook group that is calling for protests similar to that have swept North Africa and the Middle East.

The Facebook group, which has over 17,000 members, is calling for nationwide protests and reforms, including that governors and members of the upper house of parliament be elected, the release of political prisoners, greater employment, and greater freedoms.

Online activists said they believe Abdul-Ahadwas was killed by state security and that his body was taken by authorities to 'hide evidence of the crime.'
