"Four Men Arrested For Laughing At Cop's Failed Pot Bust"

Four men from Queens, New York are suing the NYPD because they say an angry cop arrested them after another group of men laughed at the cop when he was unable to catch a fleeing marijuana suspect on foot.

The arrests were made after cops approached a group gathered at Rufus King Park in Jamaica, Queens, on the afternoon of August
19, reports John Del Signore at The Gothamist. Police saw someone throw a bag in a garbage can, so they began frisking everyone to check for drugs, and one suspect allegedly told them he'd "smoked all the marijuana."

Then the guy ran off, with one cop chasing him on foot.

When the cop returned after the guy outran him, he was out of breath, and some spectators at a nearby handball game laughed at the winded officer.

One of the cops allegedly then said, "If you think that's funny, watch what I do to them," and arrested the four men.

The bag that had been thrown in the trash contained 31 glassine envelopes of marijuana, and the four men were charged with its possession.

The men said they were locked up for more than 30 hours by cops seeking revenge on a crowd of men who laughed at the officer after he couldn't catch the suspect, reports John Marzulli at the New York Daily News.

A lot of cops embarrass people, harass people, humiliate people in public and laugh at people every day. Can't take it if someone laughs at them though. Abuse of authority. Laughing is not a crime.

Cops hate that shit. I was at a rock concert once and a cop saw some dude selling a bag of weed to someone in the parking lot. The dude ran and the cop chased him for a minute...there were a lot of people tailgating and partying and when people realized what was happening everyone just started running in circles around the cop. Dozens, maybe hundreds of people...and all those dreadlocked hippie kids looked alike of course.. The cop totally lost track of who he was chasing and eventually had to slink off..but he was *pissed*. Wouldn't have surprised me if he arrested folks for laughing (and cheering wildly, in this case) but he didn't.

I'm sorry, if a police officer, trained and employed on the US tax payer dollar makes an ass of him/her self in public, we have every right to laugh at them.

I'd laugh, does that mean I'm not smart and that my judgment is flawed? If I got arrested for it I'd laugh harder, maybe they would beat me with their flash lights just to shut me up. Being "not that smart" and having "poor taste and judgment" is hardly a criminal offense, if it were, the cops should have been arrested, not the men laughing at them. I realize that you agree they should not have been arrested - but on what grounds do you attack their intelligence, taste and judgment? It was funny, they had every right to laugh.

Everyone should know what corrupt assholes cops can be and what little regard for the law they can have. I would find it hard not to laugh in that situation. A cop not being able to run down a big bad pothead. One of the greatest Olympic Gold medalists in recent history smokes pot. Yeah, it's so evil.
