| So, a friend of mine is going to Sudan soon |

To cover the referendum. He is going freelance for a large wire service. But, what gets me is they aren't even supplying him with a helmet and vest. The way I see it, if you want someone to go into a place like Sudan, you owe it to them to TRY to keep them safe.
It boggles my mind what scummy companies will do to save a buck these days, sure we'll just send in a young man without protection and pay him shit while we're at it. This goes on all the time. I really wonder if this trend of treating people like shit will ever end.

ANd some other places, but never anywhere like this at a volatile time. I like the guy, but I think he's being stupid. You don't go into these places half assed. I know full on correspondents who won't go in unless they have paid protection. You can't file from a coffin.

| 5. That guy who was almost killed in thailand for the toronto star |
|
Ran into a live fire area wearing a bike helmet and shorts. This is absolutely insane. The start should have bought him a vest.

| 6. Well reality is that medics are nuts |

but reporters do beat us more or less. We do it since it is our job to risk neck to get people out (ok not in the US), but reporters... when rescue workers are running one way they stay.
