but my experience with "feeding America" is not that good. 3 or 4 years ago, I gladly gave $15 to this cause. Then I quickly got one letter a month asking for more money, including one just last week. It feels like they spent the entire $15 not to feed the hungry, but to print letters, buy enevelopes and stamps and write to me asking for more money. I find that very annoying. Of course, the Salvation Army does the same damn thing, even after I asked them to stop. I also started hearing from Smile Train, Doctors without borders, Amnesty international, Jimmy Carter Fund etc., etc., etc. Some of that may be from my magazine subscriptions too or my child sponsorship or political donations. The word has gotten out, apparently hfojvt is made of money.

Why are you having to work so hard to raise that amount on liberal website? You have been working at this for several days now. How many visitors does this site host per day? If only 200 unique eyes see your appeal each day since you started this campaign, there would be around 800 views by today, yet just 150+ people have contributed. My post may get deleted, but I want to say this performance by readers is disgraceful, the $10,000 should have been raised after a couple of days, the fund should be pushing multiple $10K's now.

Would the people posting on the Free Republic have raised $10,000 quicker? Until I watched the response to this worthy appeal, I would have said, "never, until hell freezes over, never!", but now I am not so sure any more. $10 donations by 1,000 readers would have busted the target, but the target is still shimmering in the foreground. Will it be hit?

32. $10 is not a lot of money.

My average meals at home cost maybe $5 each and I eat expensive stuff. I may have sounded like a narcissist with the last sentence, but I want to make the point that ANY of us can accumulate $10 very easily. Sorry, no one is off the hook here, if you can pay expenses of living, you can give $10 every so often. I can see people that don't have jobs not being able to come up with $10 easily, but what percentage of DU fall into the unemployed category? Even if DU membership was 50% unemployed or too poor to come up with $10 for charity, that still would leave, if my 200 daily views is used as a mark, 100 views by people that can donate $10. I may be an assuming ass, but if I only count the Julian Assange worship posts, there several hundred views on the DU daily.

I am one of the hundreds of thousands who've been helped by food banks this year. I have been under-employed or unemployed for the better part of two years. I have struggled to maintain my internet connection, largely because I have been using eBay to add a wee bit of money to my meager monthly income.

So, I feel compelled to observe that your arrogant and insensitive proclamation does NOT help. In fact, you remind me of the conservatives who sniffingly dismiss the hardships we members of the hoi polloi have been facing since Bushco drove the final stake into the heart of this nation.

You MIGHT consider that the vast majority of visitors to this website are in dire economic straits, and are not capable of scraping up $10 'every so often.' We don't have that level of discretionary funds. There will be NO Christmas in this house, bluestate10. And, I will NOT be sending money to DU, until and unless I am gainfully employed.

BTW, I do contribute to those less fortunate even than I--for example, I shared the shopping cart full of food the last food bank gave me. Some went to a homeless man who is squatting in an old trailer parked in an overgrown, abandoned lot near a friend's home. He cannot cook, but he can open a can. And, I still put in volunteer time every week. I think my contributions would be as ashes in my mouth if I went around telling everyone how easily THEY could contribute to the needy among us.

At work we had the Salvation Army Angel tree program and gave gifts for children who's families could not afford any. As part of that we also collected food for the food bank. When it was close to the end they collected $160 bucks to make a store run and I took the purchaser to my local navy commissary and bought a whole lot of food and and even payed the over charge out of my pocket $181 worth of food that I know was more than you could get at Vons Ralphs or any other local store by about 40%.
