THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN OXNARD HAS ISSUED A

* FLASH FLOOD WARNING FOR... SOUTHWESTERN LOS ANGELES COUNTY IN SOUTHWEST CALIFORNIA...

* UNTIL 745 PM PDT

* AT 536 PM PDT... NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED WIDESPREAD HEAVY RAIN ACROSS WESTERN LOS ANGELES COUNTY. A LINE OF INTENSE SHOWERS EXTENDED FROM MALIBU NORTHWARD TO WOODLAND HILLS AND CALABASAS. RAINFALL RATES OVER 1 INCH PER HOUR HAVE BEEN REPORTED AT SEVERAL LOCATIONS IN MALIBU AND THE ADJACENT FOOTHILLS. THIS RAIN WILL PRODUCE SIGNIFICANT FLASH FLOODING AND FLOODING OF ROADWAYS IN WESTERN LOS ANGELES COUNTY INCLUDING THE 101 FREEWAY FROM CALABASAS THROUGH RESEDA AND ON PACIFIC COAST HIGHWAY FROM MALIBU TO PACIFIC PALISADES. ROCK SLIDES AND MUD SLIDES ARE LIKELY TO AFFECT PACIFIC COAST HIGHWAY AND CANYON ROADS THROUGH THE SANTA MONICA MOUNTAINS.

* LOCATIONS IN THE WARNING INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO VAN NUYS... MALIBU... SANTA MONICA... WOODLAND HILLS AND AGOURA HILLS

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A FLASH FLOOD WARNING MEANS THAT FLOODING IS IMMINENT OR OCCURRING. IF YOU ARE IN THE WARNING AREA MOVE TO HIGHER GROUND IMMEDIATELY. RESIDENTS LIVING ALONG STREAMS AND CREEKS SHOULD TAKE IMMEDIATE PRECAUTIONS TO PROTECT LIFE AND PROPERTY. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CROSS SWIFTLY FLOWING WATERS OR WATERS OF UNKNOWN DEPTH BY FOOT OR BY AUTOMOBILE.

2. Oh, so that's why the building has been shaking and I can't hear the radio because the pounding

on the roof is so loud......

It's been absofuckinglutely POURING for 20 hours.

Probably explains why my weather alert alarm has been going off. Haven't bothered to hit the button to listen to the alert details. I'm at home, warm and dry, and gonna STAY RIGHT HERE for now. Sirens all day long (all last night, too), now a Coast Guard helicopter going overhead.

neighborhood. Oy.

It's been raining for some 21 hours here in West L.A. Lighter rain now. But it was pretty ferocious all day, compounded by the fact that so many local roads were closed for the LA Marathon. Driving's bad enough when that happens, but when it's all wet besides? OY. And NOBODY remembers how to drive in the rain. We do need it but when there's an onslaught the hills start becoming oversaturated. Then they slide down.

24. I'm in Tarzana. Weather radar shows a red-orange band here but it is

moving east almost imperceptibly.

I am freaking out more because there is a red/PURPLE band heading for Huntington Bch, where my DBF is working on call this weekend and I really don't want him in any big box stores tonight if rain that hard hits.

29. Finally stopped

Just checked outside and the wind has died down, and rain just stopped. Maybe I can finally convince the poor dogs to go outside before bed. Every time I'd open the back door for them, they just stood there looking out. I could hear them saying "You're kidding right?" I hope we get a little break before the next storm hits. (in Long Beach)
