Of the 1.3 million jobs created in the last 12 months, some 90 percent have gone to men, according to a report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Women have gained just 149,000 jobs.

There's no question that the recession hit men particularly hard, with jobs slashed from traditionally male-dominated sectors like manufacturing and construction. Men have still lost more net jobs than women have since the start of the recession in December 2007, with men losing a net 4.9 million jobs, while women have lost 2.5 million jobs.

While you might expect men to recover more jobs since far more men were put out of work, there are some signs that things have gotten worse for women rather than better. Looking at the data since the end of the recession in July 2009, men have gained 600,000 jobs while women have lost 300,000 jobs.

Consider, too, that women didn't lose their jobs because they make less money than men on average. It's more economically unequal since not only did less women get new jobs/rehired than lost jobs, they were making crappier wages before the job loss so are less able to weather times between jobs. Throw children in female-headed, single parent households into the mix, and the inequity becomes even more stark.

Wealthy investors, Hedge Funds and others have done extremely well. Corporate profits are at record levels!

In fact, corporations have benefited from laying off workers and squeezing more productivity out of existing works. This increases profits and shareholder wealth.

Someone posted an excellent article on this and I will try to find it. It explains how the jobless recovery has helped corporations make out like bandits and they have no incentive to hire.

13. service sector jobs tend to have a lot of bending, lifting

pushing, pulling, sweeping, stocking, and so on. Managers might look at a pool of candidates and think that men may be able to handle the physical aspects of the jobs better (whether that is true or not). Also, many traditional female jobs have been eliminated or condensed due to technology advances - cashiers, administrative and bookkeeping, off the top of my head.

i would lay money on the fact that, even though men are getting the majority of new jobs, they pay a lot less. A lot less.
