10. I was in Rio MANY years ago and long before this was built!

Rio was drop dead beautiful to me and I had never seen such beautiful women as I did on the streets in the city. It took a very long time to get there, IIRC...

#6 is the ruins of a Greek ampitheater in Taormina, Sicily with Mr. Etna in the background.

13. Wondering if you've been there or perhaps using Android?

I, too, never knew of this place til I inadvertently visited on a trip to Sicily which was just a getaway after the death of my mother. I had no idea it even existed. And even tho I was there in early December, it was still very beautiful...

How did you stumble onto it?

14. Well...

I knew it was Mt. Etna, so that it had to be Sicily. Simple seach on "ruins Sicily" found that it was Taormina.

It's just gorgeous!

You must have a good feel for the volcanoes of the world...I don't, sorry to say...

There are distinguishing features, esp. the artist who carved the reliefs...perhaps you've been to Prato?

Haven't been to Prato but recognized this from somewhere; perhaps an art history class or one of the many travel shows I watch on PBS.

36. Well, congrats on getting that! BTW, it was also the place of my FIRST Friday Afternoon Challenge

question! I just had a pic (not this one) and asked "What is it?" I got some odd answers...

Also, the balcony itself was designed by Masolino and Donatello did the relief sculpture, which looks a lot like what he did for the Duomo, which I saw (along with the della robbias).

If you like art history, come back for next week's Challenge! It's another art venture...
