It's too late to fix a lot of what we've started in the last few decades. But people are still acting like we can put it off.
Yeah, the future is indeed bright :eyes:

collapse and extinction is so great now that stopping it would be like pulling a plane out of a nose-dive just before it hits the ground.
There may be profits still to be made in the wreckage, however.

| 11. It all starts and ends with reducing the human population |
|
Forget trying to sustainably supply the energy, food, and decent standard of living to 10 billion people.
All we can do is start cutting back what people can have to forestall the inevitable.
Things humans enjoyed for a millenium will become luxeries. Clean water, meat, fresh air, etc. will become more restricted even in 1st world countries.
Who wants to champion population reduction though? Way too unpopular and emotional, so we'll continue increasing our numbers until collapse. In 50 short years the seas will be commerically fished out.

why the environment is such a low priority. One reason is that industry had framed environmental concerns as a class issue, fought by people who want to stop jobs and hippie types trying to take us back to the stone age.
They have minimized what the environment really is, instead of it really being our only public health policy. On the political spectrum it is never discussed in terms of human health.
Even here on DU, I have had posts about such concerns moved to the environment board where it dies on the vine.

descended from survivors who had the perception and will to say we.need.to.move.now. Right now, and motivating a population who had grown content with the view.
So now we're the ones who are shouting the warning and the leaders insist all is well.
The situation won't change until the politics are changed, and even then we might not have the time. And I didn't even get a kiss first.
