We all know what he did, he was found guilty in a court of law for it. Sorry that the English language doesn't have words that can directly say what he did in one go. Hence, it becomes "involved in."

murder mystery about a Mississppi or Louisiana mayor who discovered a dog fighting ring in his city that was involved with a Mississippi gambling boat casino. There were very graphic descriptions of the dog fighting scenes and I am trying to remember if the book was written before or after the Vick espose. I am in a book exchange group and no longer have the novel.

If it was written before the Vick scandal, then he author was very well acquainted with dog fighting in the South.
