157. Why is no one mentioning that India was also well aware of the
earthquake but made little effort to tell anyone even in their own country that it might lead to a problem, because they were concerned abt 'issuing a false alarm'? India built an atomic bomb; I'm sure they have sophisticated seismological capabilities. They knew abt the earthquake as soon as the US did.

(After the main earthquake, they did issue alarms related to aftershocks, which turned out to be unnecessary.)

This is the bi-polar DU at its finest (with sincere apologies to people who are bipolar.)

"The US knew the tsunami would hit those areas and could have warned them with enough time for people to escape."

Even if that is true, which I don't believe it is, there seems to be a fair amount of concurrence that with no emergency escape plan in place in the region for tsunamis, and limited if any ability for the governments of these countries to alert there own citizens, there was probably no real way to prevent this tragedy at this moment in time.

"Why is the US sending air craft carriers to the region? We're beginning another Iraq."

Maybe because aircraft carriers can provide take-off and landing facilities to areas which had no functioning airports? Maybe because they have large medical facilities?

"Why aren't we sending more money?"
"We are only sending money as propaganda."

And of course:

"No Muslim could ever spout an irrational idea. Only Americans can."

The sad reality here is that the region counted on the historical lack of tsunamis in the Indian Ocean, had no emergency response plan in place for an area with a wide variety of difficulty of geographical access and were the victims of a quirk of nature.
