the anti-abortion people have succeeded in harrassing well enough to make it difficult for people. My point was that legislatively, precious little has been done in 30 years.

While there are the egregious examples of the late-term abortion act and some parental notification laws, these have actually had next-to-no impact on the actual numbers of abortions performed.

It has long been my belief that Republicans would be mortified at the idea of actually outlawing abortion - they NEED it as an issue and any success on this "fake" issue would prevent them from being elected to do what they REALLY want to do (basically steal everything).

In fact, I think Kerry should've pushed Bush on the abortion issue. Bush has said he does not favor overturning Roe v Wade, but you'd be hard-pressed to find many republicans who are aware of that. Kerry should've MADE Bush come out explicitly one way or the other. Kerry had nothing to lose - a clear majority of Americans favor keeping abortion legal.
