Worley picks Diebold over recommended firm for new voter system Secretary of State (Alabama) Nancy Worley's choice of a company to develop a statewide voter registration system surprised an advisory committee that had unanimously recommended two competitors.
Worley, a
Democrat, said she picked Diebold Inc. because its bid of $2.3 million was much lower than the $3.88 million bid by a partnership of Electronic Data Systems and SysCon and $3.92 million bid by a partnership of Election Systems & Software and Unisys, The Huntsville Times reported.
A 24-member advisory committee, which includes Democratic and Republican public officials as well as private citizens, spent more than a year in deliberations and unanimously recommended the partnership of ES&S and Unisys.
