State official busted for buying crack
Police pull over Consumer Protection Board deputy director

ALBANY, Dec. 20
By WNYT Staff

A high-ranking state official has been charged with buying crack cocaine.

Albany police arrested Caroline Quartararo Monday just before 7 p.m.

She is the executive deputy director of the state Consumer Protection Board. She's also a former spokeswoman for Gov. Pataki

a little about Ms. Quartararo from the press release announcing her appointment (Mods -- this is posted in full -- it is a public press release issued by a New York State executive agency and is not protected by copyright).

Consumer Protection Board names Caroline Quartararo as CPB's new Executive Deputy Director

Teresa A. Santiago, Chairperson and Executive Director of the Consumer Protection Board ("CPB") today announced the appointment of Caroline Quartararo as Executive Deputy Director. The Executive Deputy is the number two position at the agency, and is responsible for day-to-day operations.

Chairperson Santiago said, “Caroline is an experienced professional, and I am extremely pleased to have her on board. The CPB’s mission – to protect and inform consumers – will be well served by her commitment, enthusiasm and energy.”

Caroline Quartararo most recently served as the Communications Director for Howard Mills for U.S. Senate. Prior to that, she has held positions as Governor Pataki’s criminal justice press secretary, and as the Senior Vice-President for Public Affairs at the Empire State Development Corporation. She was also Press Secretary for Governor Pataki’s 1994 campaign.

Quartararo said, “This new position offers me the unique opportunity to help people at the grass-roots level. I respect and admire Chairperson Santiago for all her hard work on behalf of consumers across the state, and look forward to helping her continue the good work of the CPB.”

Quartararo’s annual salary is $100,000.

Another great law and order Republican no doubt!
