KTVBBOISE -- The Idaho Department of Health and Welfare is laying off 126 employees and closing a third of its offices across the state.
These cuts not only affect the employees, but also those who need or require the government's services.
Those losing their jobs found out about it Tuesday morning, and while that is bad news for those workers and their families, there is a ripple effect that will impact many more people.
Health and Welfare spokesman Tom Shanahan says that these layoffs were a budget-balancing measure.
The department had to balance its books by July 1, and letting these employees go will make that portion of the budget right on.
