Aug. 1 (Bloomberg) -- The U.S. has found evidence that Saddam Hussein's government was building weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, London's Daily Telegraph newspaper reported, citing a former United Nations weapons inspector.

David Kay, who is now leading a team of 1,400 American, British and Australian inspectors, told a U.S. Senate committee that people who doubted Hussein had weapons ready to use are in for a surprise, the Telegraph reported.

Kay's comments came at a private hearing in Washington and may ease pressure on U.S. President George W. Bush and U.K. Prime Minister Tony Blair to prove Hussein was a threat before U.S. and British forces invaded the nation earlier this year.

Blair said Hussein had weapons ready to use in 45 minutes. More than three months after fighting finished in Iraq, the U.S. and British forces there still haven't revealed evidence to back up that assertion.

are you sure they aren't mustard gas canisters that the UK left there after gassing the arabs and the kurds in the 20's?
