SPEECH UPDATE: President Obama has reported in his speech that the United States has conducted an operation which killed Osama bin Laden. Last August, he was briefed on a possible lead indicating that Obama bin Laden was hiding in a compound deep within Pakistan. The President decided last week that there was enough intelligence to move, and at his direction, a small team of Americans moved today to attack the site. Osama bin Laden was killed in the ensuing firefight, during which no Americans were harmed, and his body was taken into custody.

President Obama states that cooperation with Pakistan helped to confirm OBL's location. He also wishes to emphasize that the US is not at war with Islam, and that this should be a historic moment for all who desire peace.
