NEW YORK - A judge ordered the immediate release of nearly 500 protesters Thursday, just hours before President Bush (news - web sites) was to speak at the Republican National Convention.

State Supreme Court Justice John Cataldo ordered 470 protesters freed, including some who had been awaiting arraignment for almost three days.
