and a lot of the stress falls on women, who are expected to do everything while kow-towing to the males in their lives.

I know a lot of families that aren't much different from Saudi Arabian families. It's no coincidence that the Bushes are close to the Saudis. Same oppressive attitudes toward women.

I have nothing against devout Christians, but imo the Christian church has a lot to answer for. Women are hammered into believing that they must be "good" wives, mothers, employees, volunteers - all "good" as defined by a male-dominated hierarchical church and society.
