68. LA Times - Seal Beach shooting: Suspect suffered PTSD from boat injury
Edited on Thu Oct-13-11 05:10 PM by slackmaster
The suspect in the Seal Beach salon shooting rampage, Scott Evans Dekraai, 42, suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder as the result of a tugboat accident in 2007, according to court records.

His doctor, Ronald T. Silverstein of Long Beach, made the diagnosis in court documents dated Sept. 30, 2008, that were contained in Dekraai's divorce and custody proceedings....

Lots more at the Los Angeles Times Web site: http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/lanow/2011/10/seal-beach-shooting-suspect-suffered-ptsd-from-boat-injury.html

The comments are very interesting IMO - They show the same kind of confusion that we see in this threat about citing PTSD as a contributing factor in the crime vs. using it as an excuse (which nobody has done AFAIK.)

All anyone has to do is mention the fact that the man has been diagnosed with PTSD, and that person will be automatically accused of "defending" the shooter or using the diagnose to "excuse" the crime.
