33. He's pissed for two reasons:

His last experience before the election hijacking was as a CEO. In the business world, you say and do whatever you want in the board room, the executive suites, the country club, etc. You get to live large, and be the top gun, and you get a king's ransom for salary and benefits, and you get AWFULLY spoiled, AWFULLY quickly. You ARE God, basically, and you can do whatever you want, because you run the show. People have to bow and scrape if they want to keep their jobs. They have to do what you say without question because you sign their paychecks and hold their careers in your hands. You're the boss. THAT is what he became VERY comfortable. And by the way, that's NOT how government runs, which is why the government can never be run like a business. The CEO is beholden to no one except maybe the board of directors and/or stockholders. Certainly NOT to his employees or his staff. It's the other way around. And that is NOT how government is structured. He still hasn't gotten the memo that says his current job is as a public SERVANT. He works for US and WE supposedly call the shots. (Yeah, I know, I know.)

So when some uppity pipsqueak (his thoughts, not mine) like Patrick Leahy comes up and gets in his face a little and asks annoying questions of his anointed omnipotent sun-god-ship, he's probably thinking "if this were Halliburton, or the private sector, I could fire your ass and have you taking orders at McDonald's faster than shit through a goose." This rubs him the wrong way and goes against everything he's become used to since he went back into the private sector - of being the big-ass boss man whose word is God's own. How DARE that Leahy question him!?!? So he's pissed that he's stuck in this system where pissants (in his view, no doubt) like Leahy can give him grief and he can't fire his ass. So he spouts off.

Second, HE IS FEELING THE HEAT. From a LOT of things that have his name on it. Like the war. Like the run-up for war. Like the Plame Game. Like maybe Torturegate, too? Like the stovepiped intel that his buddy-boy, "Scooter" rigged for him so he could deal with Chalabi without those annoying bureaucratic, know-nothing, pencil-pusher middlemen in the CIA who kept telling him all the things he didn't want to hear, especially since he knew better. Like his heart - which, you can bet - is bothering him again. You don't get into messes this big, and this public, with this much potential for REAL shitstorms coming down on your head, without suffering a few palpitations. Especially with a ticker as faulty as his. God only knows how much medication he's taking every day. My mom has a bad heart and a pace-maker and has been living on borrowed time for almost 15 years now, and you should see the pill bottles lined up on her bathroom countertop. And she's not under the stress he's under, nor is she facing the kind of nightmares he is. Nor is she facing the kind of Judgment Day after death that he is, for offenses as grievous as he's committed. And I think, deep down, he knows it. I bet he feels the cold breath of the Grim Reaper on the back of his neck every day. That's why he looks like he does, now.

That said, do I feel sorry for him?

In a pig's eye. Reap what you sow, dick. And go fuck yourself, while you're at it, 'eh?
