I'll get right to it. A woman's letter in my paper today:
I've had it with people saying President Bush was appointed. The pregnant chads in Florida were counted six times, and Bush had more votes than Gore every time. (Ref: letter March 17).
The reason the election wound up in the Supreme Court is because Florida's Supreme Court changed the rules extending the legal time for the secretary to announce the winner. Florida's Democrat Supreme Court was hoping they could somehow make enough chads look pregnant that they could win Florida. Everybody knows (or should know) that judges can't make laws. Florida Supreme Court Judges took it upon themselves to try to get away with it.
Gore got a few more popular votes, but our presidents are elected by electoral votes, and it is about time hard-headed Democrats got that through their heads. The U.S. Supreme Court ruled that the Florida Supreme Court could not change a law; it's that simple. The butterfly ballot? A Democrat woman designed it. Al Gore had his lawyers in Florida early the next morning. Pretty fishy to me -- illegals voting, etc. Another thing: They also need to get their head out of the sand and elect Bush again! We need him!
My response so far:
Dear Editor:
It appears that xxxx (whose letter appeared in xxx 4/26/04) must only get her news from Fox News Channel, because how else could she be so grossly misinformed? The real dispute in Florida during the 2000 election was that Katherine Harris and Jeb Bush paid big bucks to Choice Point Inc. to purge the voter rolls. Funny how she was the Chair of the Bush Campaign in Fla and Jeb is Bush, Jr's brother. Funny how the vast majority of the thousands of people denied the right to vote in Fla was because of this purge were black and registered Democrats. Funny how only __________ (help?) were actually ineligible voters.
XXX's statement "Gore got a few more popular votes" is hilarious! 500,000 (help...exact number?) is more than a few.
And just to make sure XXX is fully informed: Is she aware that Bush, Jr's lawyer James Baker (who filed the lawsuit against Gore, not the other way around) is also the lawyer defending the Saudi's names? whom the Families of victims of 9/11 are suing?
I wish I could think of a concise ending to this to refute her "we need him" too.
Thanks for any help folks, I'm no word smith. :)
