he was their come-back candidate, so to speak.

Ford didn't fit the bill...the country was still too tired of it all....

Frankly, I couldn't listen to a reagan speech without laughing..he often made the most idiotic of statements...and he couldn't separate fact from fiction..and this was in his 1st term as well.

I didn't find him motivating or charming..and I never understood why people claimed he was both.

I think it was just a very good PR job and people bought into it...accepted it as fact, repeated it back..and came to believe it as if they had always thought that way.

the crumbling of Nixon shattered many republicans...latching onto reagan brought them a measure of pride again...and when your pride is damaged that badly, even the devil looks like a savior....
