Laura scolded the naughty people pressing for stem cell research, saying that all they do is give false hope to people like Mrs Reagan and me, who both watched our loved ones be slowly destroyed before our eyes. She doesn't want me and Nancy to be disappointed, because she says that cures for vicious diseases like Alzheimer's, diabetes, etc are not just around the corner.

So -- we CAN believe that "prosperity" is around the corner, and that peace in Iraq is around the corner, and the US prevailing in the War on Terra is around the corner, and even that man on Mars is around the corner, -- and that this is the OPTIMISM that George W is all about, but we MUST not believe that advances in medicine as the result of stem cell research is around the corner, -- research which is UNIV-FUCKING-VERSALLY held to be the most promising frontier in medicine -- no, we are NOT to be optimistic about that! That's why we need grownups like Mrs Bush to explain these things to us.

I've spent too many horrific years enmired in the horrific effects of these diseases to brush Laura's STUPID and CONDE-FUCKING-SCENDING remarks off casually.

Here we go again -- the fucking Bush administration going against EVERY reputable scientific authority, to advance their fundamentalist ideology.

They want to do to science what they did to Iraq -- TOTALLY fuck it up while CLAIMING it has never been a better and happier place.
