Tony Blair specifically stated that Saddam Hussein had the capability to deply WMD in less than 45 minutes. Obviously it was horseshit, but just as obviously this was one of the bigger selling points in the war. The same as the supposed purchase of enriched uranium from Niger was a big part of the sale of the war in the US. People tend to get a little "up in arms" when told an avowed enemy is building nuclear weapons (that whole Cold War thing comes to mind) and when that enemy has the ability to strike in less than 45 minutes. Of course when it turns out to be an unmitigated total flaming, steaming pile of horseshit...well those responsible need to be held accountable.
