23. I just watched a repeat of this.. Sorry, but Maher is a moron
Maher is not a liberal. His comment on Asscroft was kinda typical. While he hammers Bush on several things... being AWOL etc... he lets him off on some really big things like taking the US to war on the basis of a pack of lies.

He doesn't think * is that cynical, he said. * must have believed that Saddam was bad and had lots of nasty weapons... he must have because I did too. (he didn't actually say that, but that was the gist)

He said some truly stupid things about Mel Gibson's messiah. Put him in the same camp as Tom DeLay and said that conservative catholics are Jew Killers. And said that DeLay was different than Bush because Bush really wanted peace in the Middle East. Yeah right!

From what I understand Maher is a bit of a pinup for American progressive thought. To me he came across as a bit of a moron. He voted for Bob Dole. Sorry to any Maher fans out there... but that was my impression of this show and it kinda confirmed suspicions from viewing him before. While it is good that at least someone with a bit of liberal spunk has a TV show... I'd say it is really just tokenism.

Maher is tolerated by the mediawhores because he is not really on the other side.
