the troops. FRG stands for Family Readiness Group, which are non-profit groups within the military. They are composed of both spouses and soldiers.
FRG do (among other things):
food drives and food pantry donations to help the military and civilian community they live in toy drives and toy donations to help the military and civilian community they live in send boxes to troops deployed...and send them all kinds of things....uniform items, books, needed personal items, etc. school supplies for both military and local civilian schools
Money is also used to host functions and get-togethers so the spouses and children left behind can come together for support.
One FRG group paid 2.50 a magnet and sold them for 5.00......they made over 5000...ALL of which went back to supporting the troops and their families. ...to include donations to the air conditioner drive so troops could have relief from the heat.
FRG's also make donations to Walter Reed and other military hospitals of money, clothing, and personal grooming items for soldiers recovering.
They also buy wreaths for the dead.
A lot of businesses will sell them and pocket the profit....but not every ribbon was sold by a business...often time a military family group is selling them to raise money to "support the troops"
