All that was missing was the 60-foot banner from Karl Rove's political shop that should have said: "Mission NOT Accomplished!"

There he was again, our boyish commander-in-chief, tricked out again in his military-style garb, with a six-inch-wide badge on the right shoulder of some kind of fleecy, beige wannabe flight jacket, suitably framed against a backdrop of camouflage-clad Marines at Camp Pendleton.

Eighteen months ago the presidential warrior flew here to strut in his borrowed flight suit along the flight deck of the carrier Abraham Lincoln, under the infamous "Mission Accomplished!" banner the White House team of political advance men blamed initially on overzealous Navy folk, only to slither away from that canard when the tempest died down.
