It seems to be that having repeated vaccinations builds up immunity. A little bit from the previous years hangs out in your system to prevent from infection from prior strains of the virus.

I hope people don't get sick. Influenza can lay a relatively young and healthy person down, debilitated for days and with lingering symptoms for weeks. In agreement with those posting above, whom have suffered through it, it is not a cold.

I caught a B-strain two years ago, not covered by the year's vaccine. I thought I might die. I sometimes wished I would.

My advice: if you can find vaccine, get it. Protect yourself and others around you. The vaccine cannot make you sick, it is made from killed virus.
