And I'm saddened and angered by the parachurch and right-wing religious groups that feel they have to stuff their dogma down people's throats before they can offer help. Being a part of a mainline denomination has its occasional irritations, but at times like this I really feel good about it.

This Sunday my church will take up a special offering, so it will be the easiest method for me to make a donation; and I know that little or no amount of it will go for "administrative costs." That's an important piece for me--that whatever/whomever I donate to gets the money where it's needed and not in some executive's pocket.

Of course, by no means am I suggesting any of these previously mentioned organizations do that. As I know them, they are all reputable and reliable.

So, where was I going with this?

Oh yeah . . . folks have a lot of agencies they can choose from--and I think that's good. The diversity means that several needs are handled at once, put in different areas, etc.
