36. The Day Bush and Cheney Met With 911 Commission |
|
This was by far the most pitiful display of journalistic cowardice in American history. Reporters were not allowed into the joint appearance by Cheney and Bush. They allowed no notes to be taken or recordings to be made. Cheney and Bush refused to take an oath. After this meeting when the president emerged tand gave the eager press corps a statement. "I answered all their questions" Bush said of the inquiry. The headlines read....."Bush answers all questions". They allowed Bush who closed them out to be his own witness. The white house screwed the press into the ground and the press not only gave Bush a pass but turned the story into an example of the president cooperating with the 911 investigators.
