You know that election that's going to be held on January 30 in Iraq no matter what? Here's a fun story on that from Yahoo:

"Militant Groups Warn Iraqis Not To Vote"

According to as yet unconfirmed reports, the entire Mosul election commission resigned after getting death threats. Meanwhile, Islamic terrorist groups are threatening to make life hell, or end it altogether, for anyone who goes out to vote on January 30, using rhetoric such as what you see paraphrased below:

The radical Ansar al-Sunnah Army and two other insurgent groups issued a statement Thursday warning that democracy was un-Islamic. Democracy could lead to passing un-Islamic laws, such as permitting homosexual marriage, if the majority or people agreed to it, the statement said.

Gee. The Ansar al-Sunnah Army is using the same campaign tactics that Rove and the fundamentalists used to get Bush back into office this year. Is this evidence of a link between Rove and Al-Qaeda? Could be! Let's invade him just to be on the safe side!

Jesus. You want to laugh, but it's just not funny. The Christian fundamentalists send their army out to destroy a secular dictatorship so they can then use Iraq as a giant battlefield on which to fight to the death with Islamic fundamentalists--when the irony is that they have so much in common, they should really be joining forces to wage war on the rest of us secular humanists!

What fun it must be for all the ordinary Iraqis who are caught in the middle of all this bullshit that at the end of the day really has nothing to do with them, except that they're all at risk of dying from it. And how much they must all look forward to exercising the franchise on January 30th! I can't wait to see Bush's inspiring message to them all on Iraqi television: "You will vote if it kills you! Which it probably will! But your deaths will not be in vain, for they will have thrown the all-important veil of legitimacy over the diseased and purulent loins of imperialism!"

Yee ha,

The Plaid Adder
