12. There seems to be a lot of this sort of thing about nowadays.
People testing the waters, seeing what they can get away with. As a Brit, the watershed for me was watching David Frum and Michael Moore go head to head on Question Time USA. Frum kept linking Saddam to 9/11, and MM kept calling it out as a lie, saying "you're talking to Brits! They know their history! They're not buying this!"

Frum didn't seem to understand. He said "This is an American audience!"

MM replied "The audience, yes, but the people watching on TV are British!"

This was a couple of days before the Presidential election. My eyes opened at that point: Frum automatically assumed that Americans would buy anything he said. I realised your media was systematically lying, at worst, or not pursuing the truth, at best. My blood chilled.

Oh, and the world is watching. Don't worry about that part.
