32. The labor/union movement was born in blood
The first industrialists did not willingly give up their feudal power to accommodate workers rights. It is a portion of history that few people are aware of. Many have taken for granted what workers are now losing--their rights. The labor laws that were enacted under FDR did not fall out of the sky. There were many bloody battles beginning in the 1840's (that is a hundred years of struggle) that eventually lead to legal protections for workers.
