This man is truly in the throes of some sort of mental breakdown or an advanced stage of senile dementia. His performance on the floor of the senate last night could only be characterized of that of a man with some serious mental and moral issues.

It was just what, a couple of weeks ago that Stevens nearly blew an artery on the floor and threatened to quit the senate once again if his "bridges to nowhere" got taken out of a bill? This man who claims to have inserted ANWR into the defense bill for the benefit of all the poor victims of hurricanes Katrina and Rita in the gulf region, was asked then to delay the funds earmarked for his bridges to nowhere and allow that money to be used for distaste relief in the gulf region. It was a real disappointment to me that someone from our side of the aisle didn't rise up to point that out to him last night.

The 82 year old senator ranted incoherently over the removal of his ANWR bill and said "This is the worst day of my life", then in the same breath added "he wishes this day would never end". (huh?) He also promised retribution to everyone that voted against his pet project and promised to personally visit everyone of their states to let their constituents know they didn't care about the hurricane victims. He also accused the democrats of not bothering to even read his bill and further insulted them by accusing them of not even visiting the devastated region. He also stated, he would not offer his friendship nor his help to any of those that came to his committees in the coming year, and then closed by saying he was "saying goodbye to the senate". Unbelievable!

I was very proud of our dems last night, particularly Kennedy, Durbin and Byrd. I'm more optimistic than ever about 2006 and 08. It's almost joyous to watch the complete disintegration of the republican party. With special prosecuters investigating the Plame outing, the senate's promise to investigate the illegal wire tapping of America, Delay's money laundering scandal, the SEC is investigating Frist for stock fraud, and even the impending hearing in the SCOTUS over the redistricting of Texas, Abramhoff and Scanlon are squealing like pigs, it may just be the happiest new year we've had in a long while.
