7. Frist Is Totally Inept
The more I see this doofus, the more I'd love the Repugnicans to nominate him (if he isn't behind bars) in 2008. This silver-spooned goon has snatched defeat from the jaws of victory several times. Besides the fact the man brought votes to the floor when he didn't have his ass covered (several times) to his pissing off the fundies then running back to kiss their asses, he's been the worst legislative leader I've ever seen. Keep up the fine work, Bill and may your HCA stock keep those investigators busy for the new year. Trent Lott has to be the ultimate Cheshire cat these days.

On our side, many kudos to Senators Reid and Durbin who have fought the good fight and outmanuevered Repugnicans where they could and exploited their ineptness where possible. Yesterday was a culmination of a lot of hard work by both men is bringing Democrats together when the votes really matter while allowing each Senator enough autonomy to work their local interests. Even Liebermann came back to the reservation yesterday. Maybe Joe's having some second thoughts about pissing off so many of his friends and constituents.

Stevens' Captain Queeg routine was a sad state on what being in power too long does to you. For years he played the back bencher...wheeling and dealing his votes with others for perks and other chits. Robert Byrd built his power doing the same thing. The difference is Stevens overplayed...he expected votes and thought the Senate was some sort of social club where friends and favors owed rise above party, state or national interest.

May Senator Stevens pack his bags and head to a nice long retirement on his Island to nowhere. And while he's at it, take the corrupt Murkowskis with him.
