51. First year teachers have to prepare a shitload of stuff
Most have done some prep (lesson plans, practicums, student teaching)in ed classes. And since Jenna was only an English major, not an English-Ed major, she wouldn't have had any training in teaching English or any other subject to children.

As a result, she would need to devote extra time to preparing for her first job. Spending the summer traipsing around the country sticking your tongue out at reporters will not prepare you for the first day of school.

You have to be overprepared with lesson plans, assignments, ideas, projects, in short enough educational activities to get through 180 days, plus more for those days when the plans flop and Plan B must be instituted to avoid disaster.

4th graders are going to expect more than Jenna reading them the "The Pet Goat" everyday.

Any teacher as underprepared for teaching as this woman would die of embarassment to face a class under these circumstances.
