7. I think we have to pick our battles.
I used to argue (and yell and get flustered) with anybody who wanted to argue about politics. Now I get a feel for the person first. I never argue with people who just like to argue--some people think they're constitutional scholars or something and want to "share" their knowledge of all things political. I also stopped arguing with people who are so right-wing and set in their ideology that they're really not listening to what you're saying, anyway. But there are still some people out there you can have a real conversation with. The trick is to know who they are!
