the 'deadly sins'?

If you were born in America, that is an accident of birth. No reason to be 'proud'. (If you earned an honest B.A. degree in college, you can take pride in that...not the same thing.)

Would you also claim 'pride' at being ...'white'?...'black'...'left handed'?

I, for one, am not "proud" to be an American. I am proud to be a very excellent pilot and engineer, both of which I worked very hard to achieve. I am an "American" simply by virtue of the fact that I emerged from my mom's uterus in Illinois (where, as in many other venues, people whose ancestors lived and died for thousands of years but became 'savages' and fourth-class citizens thanks to the 'civilization' brought by my own and others' ancestors.'
