Here is the inside dope on his replacement...

Sadly, I think one of Winfield's best City Confidentials was one of his last. It was about a white supremacist who acted as his own attorney and had the right to replace the judge. He did so on the grounds that the judge's name sounded too Jewish, and he agreed to a judge whose name sounded more Irish. The replacement judge (and here Winfield got in a good chuckle) was actually African-American!
