canabis is a native species to the Middle East and parts of Asia.

Canabis came to this conrtinent as a fiber crop used for making rope and sail cloth. The import/export of said hempen cloth and rope is one of the big reasons for the war of 1812.

Indians did NOT smoke pot, it did not exist on the continent until colonial times.
