"I would maintain that such is the case: devoid of Romanticism, Goth-like movements are fundamentally not Goth. The reasons for this move beyond simply "they don't dress Goth" or "their music isn't Goth" (even as there is incredible diversity within what is considered Gothic music). Those superificial reasons are not always relevant in non-Goth music that imitates Gothic conventions so well, nor are superficial reasons really something to base such objections on. Instead, these superficial reasons point to a deeper difference of worldview between Goth and its closest aesthetic neighbours, being mainly Numetal and Rivet.

Numetal is a recent development in Metal music which fuses its parent genre with the sensibilities of other genres to produce something new, but still something identifiable with the values of Metal. Adherents to Numetal culture are often given derogatory nicknames like "Spooky Kids" or "Mansonites" or "KoRnflakes", thusly named for some of the predominant names in the Numetal genre, and these proponents are often most easily identified by grotesque make-up, Skater-Punk fashion, and hooded sweatshirts with the logos of bands like Marilyn Manson, Slipknot, KoRn,..."

I have never heard the terminology "numetal". Is it to metal as naugahyde is to leather??? Or is them fightin' words...
