56. Savannah to I-26 and you don't like I-95...
as I am from South Carolina, might I suggest US 321 as an alternative? I assume from your description that you are headed toward I-77.... US 321 is a scenic highway, two lanes, but not much traffic. There are several towns for which one must slow down, but it is worth it if I-95 is too stressful. The highway is actually a straight line (i.e. shorter distance) between Savannah and Columbia, and will put you right on to I-77 at the junction with I-26.

One interesting point about this highway: You must pass through Switzerland, Denmark, Norway and Sweden on this road. Yes, these are actual town names along the route. Denmark and Norway are the only ones you'll notice because if you blink, you'll miss the other two.

Counties to be careful in (from Charlotte to Savannah) because of the state troopers: (I-77) Chester, especially around Richburg, Fairfield, especially around exit 34 and then on (I-26) Orangeburg county as a whole.
