Sheriff's deputies to carry defibrillators

It was just on our local news that our Sheriff's Department will purchase defibrillators for each squad car and train all deputies in their proper use. An additional defibrillator will be purchased for the jail, and all jail personel will also betrained in its use. I can't begin to tell you how great of a move I think this is! Over 50% of the time locally, a deputy will arrive on the scene of a cardiac arrest before the ambulance does, and being able to defibrillate a CA victim sooner rather than later greatly increases the odds of their survival.
