Reply #20: Overworked, understaffed and undertrained.

In many cases, underpaid.
They are real people w/ real problems-bills overdue, problems w/ kids, usually problems in their marriage(high divorce rate in law enforcement d/t money and worries about the job).
I'm a hardcore lib but one side I tend to go w/ the conservatives on is societies treatment of law enforcement. Maybe it's because these are the guys(and some women) that I worked w/ for years and spent offtime w/ too. Most are actually liberal-they just don't know it. Most want more options for mental health, laxer drug laws, more social services. Only a select few act like the Bosco character from Third Watch and those tend to be the newbies. Most really go into the field wanting to make a difference in society and get dragged down w/ the day to day. In many cases they are no different than a social worker-just in danger alot more often.
